In an effort to encourage outstanding South Asian students to undertake degree studies in Taiwan so as to familiarize themselves with the academic environment in Taiwan and promote communication, understanding and friendship between Taiwan and South Asian countries (India、Bhutan、 Bangladesh、Sri Lanka、Nepal), the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) establishes the following guidelines for the Taiwan Scholarship Program.

DARMASISWA is a scholarship program offered to all foreign student from countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesian to study Indonesian Language (Bahasa Indonesia), art and culture in 71 universities in 2019. This program was established in 1974 as part of ASEAN initiative, admitting student from 126 countries. DARMASISWA scholarship is managed by Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) of Republic of Indonesia. The Taiwan Scholarship program is a joint initiative launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) and the National Science Council (NSC) in 2004. At the Republic of China’s centennial in 2011, the Taiwan Scholarship program evolved into the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship program and the MOE Taiwan Scholarship program in order to cater to students of varying backgrounds.
